Red Boy (紅孩兒, Hóng Hái-er?) is the son of the Bull Demon King.

Description[]

Red Boy has powder-white skin, lips that look like they’ve been painted red, immaculate black hair, and eyebrows shaped like new moons. He wore nothing but an armoured kilt emblazoned with the images of phoenixes and dragons.[1]

History[]

Red Boy is the son of the Bull Demon King and Princess Iron Fan, and was raised by a rakshasi.

When Tang Sanzang came by Roaring Mountain, Red Boy disguised himself as a young boy tied up on the road. Sun Wukong didn’t fall for his disguise, so Red Boy transformed into a whirlwind and kidnapped Sanzang before anyone could react.[2]

The pilgrims found Fire Wind Cave and challenged Red Boy, but he used the True Fire of Samadhi to overwhelm them. When Zhu Bajie went to get help from Guanyin, Red Boy disguised himself as her and trapped him.[1]

Sun Wukong attacked Red Boy in revenge and lured him to the real Guanyin, who seemingly fled in fear of him. Callously, Red Boy seated himself on Guanyin's lotus platform, which turned out to be the Swords of Constellations, skewering him.

Red Boy begged Guanyin for mercy, who made him one of her disciples.[3]

Abilities[]

Through 300 years of spiritual cultivation, Red Boy gained the ability to exhale the True Fire of Samadhi by standing in the middle of five carts arranged in correspondence to the five elements and punching himself in the nose twice.[1]

Red Boy can also shapeshift, make objects heavier, seperate his spiritual self from his body, and transform into a whirlwind.[2]
