Silk Road (丝绸之路) is a historic term referring to the land and maritime trade routes stretching across the Eurasian continent from east to west. The Silk Road is so named after the Chinese invention of silk traveled along this route to the west thousands of years ago. Over the millennia, various goods, travelers, ideas, religions, and inventions traveled across the Silk Road, unifying people and cultures.

The term Silk Road features widely in the media. This is the route that Marco Polo took in his journey to the east when traveling from Italy to Beijing during the Mongol Yuan Empire.

Journey to the West is the story of Xuanzang's adventure along the silk road from China to India during the Tang dynasty.
